A classic Preston story.

I was hoping Preston would have time to post this story himself, but it hasn’t happened yet and it’s just so Preston, you really need to hear it.

So here’s the deal: Last week Preston wants to go hear Les Murray speak (the poet laurreate of Australia) but he doesn’t have tickets and has been told that there’s no chance of getting. Well, if you know Preston you know that’s ridiculous. So he heads down to Sydney where the lecture is being held just to see what happens. Of course, he’s not sitting on the stoop outside too long before he’s in a conversation with someone working at the event and soon he has a glass of wine and some appetizers in his hands and he’s invited inside. As if this isn’t enough, I get a call an hour or two later with Preston saying, “Hey, I think I might be home kind of late” and when I ask why he says, “Oh….I’m going to dinner with Les Murray.” Unbelievable! How did this happen? Who knows - these things just happen to him. So he gets treated to a zillion-course meal, at the type of place where there are no prices on the menu, and enjoys conversation with Mr. Murray and the 5 other people at the table. Yeah. The gods love this guy. :-)

Just wanted to share that for now. Today I finished up the 6th of 8 Easter assemblies for kids and I’m pretty tired. It was lots of fun, though! I told the story of Mary going to Jesus’ grave and finding that he had risen and drew a picture to go with the story with oil pastels. I’m pretty sure the kids liked it for the sole reason that I had multicolored pastel smears all over my hands and clothes…..maybe just a tad on my face too. Oops. At least the kids had fun!

More soon. Thank you for the comments and emails. Always craving home…

Reading this made me smile! I found a song that Preston wrote and was playing through it. It’s the one that has “breath in the light” in the chorus. I miss seeing you both. I hope you are doing well.
